On April 30, around 4 in the afternoon, I got the call that Florence was in labor and that her water had broke. She was right on time! I knew that sometime within the next 24 hours I would be on my way to document the birth of Florence and Aaron’s first child! It was 4 in the morning on May 1st when I got the “official” call to come to the hospital. This was the beautiful scene when I arrived.
I should begin that Mike and I photographed Aaron and Florence’s wedding 8 years ago. Being a part of another monumental moment in their lives is not wasted on me. I am simply in awe of this honor to document their journey through life.
After almost 24 hours of back labor and a non-progressing labor, things got a little scary. This was the last set of images that I got before I decided to put my camera down. The team of doctors and nurses at Meriter were absolutely incredible. They were so on top of it. Florence was stuck at 6 cm and her baby was quickly tiring, as was she. She went from planning on a 100% natural birth to having to come to terms with having a c-section. It was beautiful to watch her evolve into realizing that everything was happening as it should. Florence dealt with the quick changes of her expectations and the reality of the situation with amazing grace. On May 1 at 7:30pm sweet Genevieve Susan (named for both Grandmothers) was born. These two –their love and connection is so inspiring. This last image is one of my all time favorite photos. Florence and Aaron, thank you so much for welcoming me in to witness and document the birth of sweet Genevieve. You two are incredible.
